An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced gardener to join our team to work on beautiful estate gardens. The gardener will play an important role in ensuring the gardens are planted and tended at a high standard while working closely with and assisting our crew leader and head gardener.

Suitable candidates for this role will ideally hold a horticultural qualification and/or practical experience in private or public gardens, with knowledge and interest in naturalistic garden design and excellent plant identification skills. We are looking for a candidate who can complete daily gardening tasks independently and as part of a team, and be a support for the crew leader. Applicants should be flexible, energetic and cooperative in nature with a positive and friendly outlook. Good physical stamina to perform manual labour tasks, including lifting heavy objects, an eye for detail and willingness to work outdoors in all types of weather are required.

Other requirements include:

• 3-5 years experience of working in the landscape profession with garden specific knowledge and skills

• Ability to use power tools and hand tools properly

• Ability to safely drive a 1/2 ton truck, have and maintain a Valid G Driver’s License with clean abstract

• Reliable transportation to our yard in rural Caledon, ON

Duties Include:

• Spread soil and mulch, plant grasses, perennials, shrubs and trees; and perform other duties to assist in the maintenance and construction of landscapes.

• Follow all health & safety regulations including wearing appropriate protective equipment.

• Load and unload tools and equipment from the truck.

• Keep working areas clean and maintain tools and equipment.

• Work under the supervision of our Crew Leader, following instructions and daily schedules.

• Appropriate use and care for tools & equipment including shovels, rakes, hammers, wheelbarrows, picks, pruning shears, handheld and hose-end sprayers, saws, soil cultivators, water sprinklers, string & hedge trimmers, blowers, etc.

• Help organize and keep track of the tools required for the job and at times assist with timesheet management and tracking schedules, properties visited, tasks completed and materials used. Occasionally, if the crew leader requires time off, drive a dedicated work truck to specific properties and supervise and perform regular gardening duties.
